HEAVY-DUTY HARDWOOD

Scientific name Intsia spp,principally I.palembanica (Leguminosae). It is a hardwood species that has been announced as the national tree of Malaysia in 2019.

One of the most durable and strongest wood in Malaysia (certified) that is widely distributed in Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines.

Appearance

Freshly cut heartwood of Merbau is yellowish to orange-brown, weathering to brown or dark red-brown. With interlocked grain pattern, as well as coarse but even texture.

Strength

Merbau is certified by the Malaysian Timber Industry Board to be one of the strongest and most durable hardwood in Malaysia.

It is naturally durable and resists decay, fungal infestation and thermite attack.

Merbau has excellent stability without much deformation. Withstand wear and tear, making it suitable for applications that involve regular use and impact.

Application

Merbau is suitable for both indoor and outdoor application. The growth ring figure and deep colour makes it an attractive wood for decorative interior finishing.

Great for flooring, paneling, ceiling, door frame, window frame, high-end solid door, column, beam, and staircase tread.
