CHENGAL

HEAVY-DUTY HARDWOOD

Scientific name Neobalanocarpus heimii, as known as Cengal. It is a protected species due to uncontrolled illegal logging caused by its high money value.

Chengal is one of the most durable and strongest wood in Malaysia (certified) that is widely distributed in Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines.

Appearance

When freshly sawn, the heartwood of Chengal is light yellow-brown with a distinct greenish tinge, darkening on exposure to dark purple-brown or rust red. With fine and even texture and interlocked grain pattern.

Strength

Chengal is certified by the Malaysian Timber Industry Board to be one of the strongest and most durable hardwood in Malaysia.

It is naturally durable and resists fungal infestation and thermite attack.

Chengal has been known for impressive ability to withstand harsh weather condition and environmental stresses, such as applications directly under sunlight and rain.
